![]() ![]() Gone is the Harley’s standard belt drive, making room for a premium chain mechanism complete with a chromed rear sprocket. Last but not least, the final part of ZEN’s makeover involved some tasty modifications in the powertrain sector. Braided brake and clutch lines run down from the control levers, and you will spot tiny Kellermann turn signals and a classic-looking headlamp attached to the forks. The chromed handlebar itself is a bespoke unit fabricated from scratch, featuring underslung mirrors and minimalistic switches besides the aforementioned brass grips. A gold flake effect can be seen lower down on the spark plug wires, while brass plating is laid atop accessories like the filler cap, handlebar risers, and grips. On the other hand, the flame graphics were done in gold leaf and outlined with light purple pinstripes. Interestingly enough, all the original bodywork is still present, but it’s been cloaked in a groovy colorway better suited for the retro chopper theme.Įven though the base hue may appear to be black from afar, a closer examination will reveal that it’s actually a very dark shade of purple. The Sportster got treated to a Mustang leather saddle and an aftermarket sissy bar, courtesy of Lowbrow Customs once again. Performance Machine supplied a chrome-plated caliper, which bites a new stainless-steel rotor from Russell.Īt the back, the transformation was relatively straightforward by comparison. With the modified forks delivered back to ZEN’s headquarters, the Seventy-Two saw its front-end running gear finished off with a few upgrades to the braking hardware. He really went to town in order to make this work in an organic manner, and his efforts certainly paid off. To be exact, the ABS module had to be retained and somehow adapted to the springer setup – a task outsourced to Edi Buffon of Machine 1867. and secured them in place via bespoke triple clamps, but reinforcements were needed for the more complex part of the job. They got these from Lowbrow Customs over in the U.S. While they were taking the Sportster apart, the guys decided that springer forks were the way to go for the front suspension. As soon as the donor arrived at the shop in Sydney, it was game on. Its 73-cubic-inch (1,203cc) Evolution V-twin offers up to 71 pound-feet (91 Nm) of low-end torque for you to play with – more than enough for the ZEN squad and their customer. Tons of chrome, a peanut-style fuel tank, and chopper looks are all available straight from the factory, so picking a Seventy-Two for this sort of project is a bit of a no-brainer. If you’re familiar with this model, then it should be pretty clear why that was the case. ![]() Naturally, chrome had to be plentiful, as well, and the whole build criteria pointed to a 2015 Harley-Davidson Sportster Seventy-Two as an ideal starting point. Indeed, the departure of air cooling from the Sportster range marks the end of an era for The Motor Company, and it deserves a proper farewell.Īlthough ZEN’s client deemed the classic appearance to be a must-have, he wasn’t willing to sacrifice modern-day reliability and performance. The bike shown above these paragraphs is a homage to both vintage Harley choppers and the recently discontinued line of air-cooled Sportsters. Of course, this is precisely what we’re here to look at today, so buckle up and prepare yourselves for some blingy, old-school chopper vibes. Regular maintenance and quick fixes take up most of the time these Aussies spend in the shop, yet they’ll always leave a bit on the side for a good old custom project. The Australian firm acts as a dealership, wearables outlet, and workshop all at once, eager to serve the local bike-loving community down in New South Wales. Juan de Plasencia and Diego de Oropesa were the earliest Franciscans sent to these places. In 1577, Spanish Franciscan missionaries arrived in Manila, and in 1578 they started evangelizing Laguna, Morong (now Rizal), Tayabas (now Quezon) and the Bicol Peninsula as part of the colonizing effort. The province of La Laguna comprised the modern province of Laguna, as well as parts of what are now known as Rizal and Quezon provinces. Captain Juan de Salcedo with a band of one hundred Spanish-Mexican soldiers conquered the province and its surrounding regions for Spain in 1571. Laguna de Bay, in turn, was named after the town of Bay, the first provincial capital. The Province of Laguna, which was formerly called La Laguna and La Provincia de la Laguna de Bay, was named after Laguna de Bay, the body of water that forms its northern boundary. The towns of Bay, Pangil and Pakil were reputed to have once been a part of his domain, although accounts vary about his identity. It notes that its subject was released from a debt to the King of Tondo.Ī prominent figure during the time of pre-Hispanic contact is Gat Pangil, a powerful native ruler in the area. The Laguna Copperplate Inscription is the oldest known written document found in the Philippines. Pre-Hispanic settlement in the area can be dated to prehistoric times, as evidenced in the names of towns such as Pila, Laguna, whose name can be traced to the straight mounds of dirt that form the boundaries of the rice paddy, or Pilapil. In a fight against a chimp, if you fall to the ground it’s game over.įorget about strength, the chimpanzee’s bite is its lethal weaponĬhimpanzees have a smaller and denser skull than humans, their bite may not be stronger than that of a human being (according to recent studies they have similar bite strength to a human being), but their canines are undoubtedly huge and can pierce the skin and muscles of a human being with ease. Monkeys are much smaller and weaker than chimpanzees, their fangs and bite are not comparable, however, I have seen cases of small monkeys that have been able to eliminate a man with a single bite in the hand (they perforated the artery in the wrist), and I have also seen cases in which small monkeys with a simple jump kick easily knocked adult men to the ground. I remind you that monkeys and chimpanzees are not the same, a monkey is a small and thin primate. I really don’t want to base this topic entirely on subjective analysis, but after doing the research, and seeing how even small monkeys in different parts of the world have been able to easily hurt and defeat men, I have no doubt that an adult chimpanzee can defeat a man. Men have a much weaker jaw than a chimpanzee because this allowed his brain to grow, we also adapted our muscles and skin to be more adapted to run long distances and recover faster, but man’s skin is more exposed, delicate, and more fragile than that of a chimpanzee. Hand size comparison between chimpanzee and human handsĪ man is at a disadvantage to fight hand to hand against a wild animal, man, sacrificed his “evolution points” to acquire adequate abilities to hunt and think. ![]() Resources: Who would win a hand-to-hand fight between a chimp and a man?Ī grown man cannot beat a full-grown chimpanzee in a hand-to-hand fight, period.Īnd I am not basing this on strength criteria, in reality, strength is the least determinant element in a virtual fight between a chimpanzee and a man, what really makes a chimpanzee lethal are its huge fangs, the strength of its bite, and savagery when attacking.Īmong the other advantages chimpanzees have is that they have huge fingers and toes designed for grasping and squeezing. ![]() The best strategy in a fight against a chimpanzee.Forget about strength, the chimpanzee’s bite is its lethal weapon.Who would win a hand-to-hand fight between a chimp and a man?.Who would win a hand-to-hand fight and why? Fast-twitch fibers are more powerful, but they consume more energy, and therefore monkeys fatigue much faster than humans.īut let’s not focus so much on the strength of the chimp, let’s say that the chimp has more pulling power than a human being, but the advantage is not overwhelming. ![]() It is also mentioned the fact that a chimp is much stronger than a human being of the same size, yes, but it is the same case for example of donkeys and horses, it is also said that donkeys are stronger than horses, but that is not true, horses for being much bigger have more power, although a donkey is much stronger than a horse of the same size.Īccording to studies, the reason why chimps have more strength than men is that their muscles contain more fast-twitch fibers, while more than half of human fibers are slow-twitch. The reality is that chimps are quite strong, but they do not surpass the strength of an adult man by much, at most they could have similar strength or 15% more pulling power than an adult man, this difference is not really abysmal. Previously, it was said that a chimp could be up to four times stronger than a man, but this information was disproved after several studies of monkey muscle tissue. The topic of a possible confrontation between man and chimp has been discussed a lot on the internet, but I have some data to add since the general discussion has been based mostly on the comparison of who is stronger between a chimp and man, information that has also been exaggerated and misunderstood. Spoiler alert: a man can’t beat an adult chimp in a hand-to-hand fight. ![]() ![]() There are many famous onyx cameo carvings, such as the Gemma Augustea, which was produced by ancient Romans sometime between the years of 9 and 12 AD. The parallel layers of black onyx allow artisans to carve through the thin white layer of the stone, revealing the black layer underneath. Carved Jewelryīlack onyx has traditionally been used in jewelry, especially carved pieces such as cameos. Ancient Egyptians would dye onyx for use in jewelry, and many cultures, such as the Ancient Romans, would carve elaborate scenes into the stones’ surfaces. Black Onyx in History and Cultureīlack onyx has been used for jewelry, decor, and even housewares for thousands of years. It’s also the stone associated with the tenth wedding anniversary. Black onyx is thought to represent strength, power, and balance. While some people throughout history used black onyx to represent mourning, bad luck, and bad dreams due to its dark color, it’s actually more commonly thought to ward off negativity and protect the wearer from evil. They fell to the ground, but because no part of a god can die, they became known as onyx. ![]() The Greek word onyx means the nail of a claw or finger, and the Greek legend is that one day while Venus was asleep, Cupid cut her fingernails. This video shows footage from one of the largest Onyx mines in Pakistan. Much of the onyx mined for jewelry comes from the United States, India, and Brazil. Where is Black Onyx Found?īlack onyx can be foun d all over the world, from Yemen to Uruguay to Germany and Pakistan. Because onyx is porous, it is very easy to dye, and the practice has been performed since at least ancient Egyptian times. Most of the black onyx seen in jewelry is a solid, uniform shade of black, and unless you have definitive proof otherwise, you should assume that it is dyed. It’s much more opaque and less lustrous and sparkly than a black diamond, exhibiting more of a gloss than a shine. It’s often polished for a soft, satiny finish. It has a hardness of between 6 and 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and no cleavage, which makes it strong and durable enough to be used in jewelry. Onyx belongs to the quartz stone family, along with amethyst and citrine. Other types of onyx are defined by their colors, such as sardonyx, which displays red and brown bands, or carnelian onyx, which is red with white bands. However, most of the solid black onyx that is sold today is made from heat-treated gray onyx or dyed agate. It is also possible, but rare, to find naturally occurring solid black onyx. While most black onyx is black with white bands, some contain bands in brown, tan, gray, or different shades of black. Onyx is differentiated from other types of chalcedony, such as agate, jasper, and bloodstone, by its color and parallel bands. Onyx is a variety of chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline quartz - a stone made up of many fine quartz crystals rather than one large one. If you’re looking for black onyx jewelry, I recommend checking out the selection at Angara for their wide variety of quality pieces.
